Wisconsin’s unique burial mounds are a highlight of our state’s cultural heritage. 1000 years ago, Wisconsin’s native peoples built thousands of mounds—some in the shape of animals, spirits, and people—creating a ‘sculpted land’.  Come hear the results of the latest research into this phenomenon, from thousand year-old canoes to space-age LiDAR scans.

Dr. Amy Rosebrough is a Staff Archaeologist with the Office of the State Archaeologist at the Wisconsin Historical Society. A native of the Missouri Ozarks, she has long had an interest in burial monuments and archaeology. She is an alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received her doctorate for her studies of Wisconsin's effigy mounds their builders.  In her current position at the Wisconsin Historical Society, she manages archaeological and burial sites data, assists Wisconsin’s citizens with archaeological questions, and helps to protect and preserve Wisconsin’s cultural heritage.
