An Interview With Anna Hope Altschwager, Assistant Director, Guest Experience at Old World Wisconsin
Tell us about yourself
I grew up in Columbus WI, and after being a nomad for almost 15 years, moved back to WI in 2016. I'm a 5th generation Wisconsinite and love being able to serve the people of Wisconsin by exploring (and making!) history everyday with our guests. I've worked at a lot of different museums from art to zoology, but history and stories are where my heart is.

What do you enjoy about your work? I love creating spaces that make memories and illuminate for guests that history is a story that we tell ourselves. It isn’t just a list of things that happens to you – we create it. I get to work with talented and interesting people to make this magic happen.

Anything exciting coming up?
Always! Right after our Halloween program, which we do in collaboration with a performing arts high school, we’re right into planning for An Old World Christmas in December. OWC is about immigrant traditions, and the event itself has become a modern tradition for many families. With warm wassail, live music, and historic spaces bringing the holidays to life for all ages, it connects us all to the deep traditions of those who came to call Wisconsin home.
